Almost every new online seller asks me this. There's no "best" platform in absolute terms: there's the one that fits the way you sell today, and the way you'll sell tomorrow.
Where are your customers?
If you mostly sell in Morocco with cash on delivery, YouCan was built for exactly that: an Arabic interface, local integrations and tools to confirm orders. If you're aiming abroad and want card payments, Shopify offers a much wider ecosystem of apps and themes.
How many products, and how many orders?
To test one or two products, a simple store that launches fast is enough. As the catalogue grows, filters, variants and stock management become decisive, and that's where the platforms really differ.
The real cost
Don't compare the subscription alone. Add paid apps, the theme, any transaction fees and the time spent setting everything up. A platform that looks cheaper on paper can end up costing more if you have to stack add-ons.
Design and brand image
Both platforms can look professional, as long as you don't keep the default theme. A store that looks like thousands of others inspires less trust, especially when you're asking customers to order without paying upfront.
My recommendation
- You're starting in Morocco with cash on delivery: YouCan, to move fast on a small budget.
- You also sell abroad, or have a large catalogue: Shopify, or a custom-built site.
I handle both: YouCan store setup or a custom e-commerce website. Not sure? Write to me and I'll tell you honestly what suits your project.
